Tin Cup Day
Let’s just say that this day was not my best and it started on the driving range.
You know in the movie Tin Cup when Roy McAvoy is on the practice range with all the pros and he hits a shank right, barley missing all the pros and cant seem to find his swing?
Well I did that exact same thing multiple times; it’s as if I never picked up a club, ever. Image the panic attack starting to set in before I even hit the first tee. I managed to talk myself off the ledge to get the round started and played stellar bogey golf and then came the par 3 that I managed to hit the exact same shank I hit on the driving range out of bounds. Then I proceeded to drop two more off the tee (non shanks) and the last drop the ball managed to stay in play but rolled on the cart path all the way back 165 yards, and I ended the hole with an eleven.
Following up was a par 4 slight dogleg right with not much trouble to be seen and had no trouble with my drive. Then I had to hit a 140yd shot into the green that I did the exact same shot that I started the prior par 3, a shank. Then I dropped 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, and finally 5 (all solid shots OB) when I made the decision not to finish the hole which essentially disqualify me from the tournament. I was not upset nor did I curse up a storm, I quietly told my competitors that I would not be continuing with the tournament. I continued to play the remaining ten holes to get my swing straightened out, specifically with my irons and it was a good choice. I worked out the shanks and I am quite certain that I never want to experiencing this feeling ever again.
Watching the Humana Challenge I noticed that they are promoting walking and health. This reminded me that this will be my 4th straight round walking and I am continuing to enjoy it more and more. I walked 4.92 miles and burned 1150 calories during the round and my health and overall strength is improving weekly. If you have not enjoyed a round by walking then I encourage you to try it for yourself.
Here is the commercials that Humana has launched.
