The last two rounds on the Golf Channel Amateur Tour have proven to be a significant improvement over last year.  I fell short this Friday in securing my spot for the national final when I lost a two hole playoff to Michael Valdepena on the 168 yard par 3 at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course.  This was Michael's first win of the year and he is building momentum for future tournaments.

I wish all my fellow competitors the best of luck in the upcoming tournaments as the end of the season draws near.

Tournament Recap:

"In the Sarazen Flight, David Bareno of Escondido was the early clubhouse leader after a very solid round of 78 and figured to have it hold up for the easy win.  Michael Valdepena of Vista had other ideas.  Standing on #17 tee two down, Valdepena promptly birdied his last two hole, #17 and #18, to charge into the clubhouse tied for the lead at 6-over par 78.  Valdepena would maintain the momentum, winning with a par on the 2ndplayoff hole!  Gregory Hamilton, a member at Encinitas Ranch, also broke 80 and finished just a stroke back at 79, good for 3rd place."

Tournament Recap:

"In the Sarazen Flight two players separated themselves from the field and battled down the stretch.   Shingo Katamoto had built up a lead, and was able to secure his 1st Tour victory with a win in spite of finishing with a double bogey.  Katamoto earned the hard-fought win with a very good score of 82.  Just a stroke back at 83 was Alex Lisnevsky, who could have found a playoff with a bogey on his finishing hole but also suffered a double bogey finish.  David Bareno carded an 88 which was good for third place."

JC Championship Results - Golf Channel AM Tour

It was a successful weekend for me on the course, I was able to mentally battle through hole 4 and 5 to come back in a big way.  I linked 7 (after back-to-back 7's) pars together, the most consecutive pars I have ever strung together, the bogeys I made on 13, 15 and 18 were all makable putts that barely missed the cup.

Look for Mical Remirez to get a 1st place finish very soon.  He has a solid swing and great fundamentals.

View from the PAR 5 18th Fairway - I was sitting about 228 yards from the hole and I decided to layup with my 5-wood and play it smart, I was able to get a sand wedge up and down for a GIR and ended up three putting for a closing bogey.
