Aliso Viejo Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that is a straightforward layout, what you see is what you get. It's not a thinking man's golf course like Jack Nicklaus's PGA West Stadium Course in Palm Springs. If you have played Nicklaus Tournament Resort Course, then you will have a good idea of the course layout.
The Country Club is going through renovations; they laid new bent grass around the greens (in early 2017) per the Golf Shop Professional that we spoke to upon check-in. It will be interesting to play the course again after the turf matures. All-in-all it's a good course if you don't like a challenging layout. It's the perfect family course as they have excellent onsite amenities and various tees to accommodate players of different skill levels.
For the avid golfer, the course might be a one-and-done type of course. Great to play once, not many times over.
